About the Role
Reports To: Board of Directors
Direct Supervisor: Board President
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 Annually (+ stipend for health insurance)
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of FUTURE for Lompoc Youth (FLY), with overall responsibility for strategic leadership, program development, fiscal management, and organizational operations. Working under the policy direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures the organization’s mission is carried out effectively and sustainably.
This role requires a visionary leader who can engage diverse stakeholders, advocate for youth, and build strong partnerships across the Lompoc Valley. The Executive Director oversees staff, inspires volunteers, manages resources, and leads long-range planning to expand opportunities for local youth in education, career readiness, and personal growth.​​

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of work that aligns with FLY’s mission and objectives.

Assess the needs of Lompoc Valley youth and recommend programmatic improvements to maximize impact.

Provide leadership in youth advocacy by building and maintaining strong relationships with community leaders, schools, businesses, and government agencies.

Promote FUTURE’s vision, mission, and impact throughout the community.​

Community Engagement & Advocacy
-
Represent FUTURE at local, regional, and county events, as well as with media outlets, civic groups, and partner organizations.

Serve as the official spokesperson of FUTURE for Lompoc Youth.

Actively engage in community involvement to strengthen visibility, credibility, and partnerships.

Travel throughout the Lompoc Valley and surrounding areas to meet with stakeholders, attend events, and support participants in community-based activities

Financial & Operational Management​

In partnership with the Financial Officer, prepare and oversee the annual operating budget, ensuring all expenditures align with approved funding and policies.

Manage all organizational resources responsibly and transparently.

Ensure all contracts and agreements are executed effectively and services are delivered as specified.

Attend LUSD School Board meetings to present annual reports and address FUTURE contract matters

Board Relations & Governance​

Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish, refine, and implement FUTURE’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

Provide guidance, training, and input to the Board to support informed decision-making.

Advise the Board on all organizational matters and collaborate with the Chairman in representing FUTURE publicly

Staff Leadership & Development​

Recruit, supervise, and develop staff to ensure effective program delivery and organizational growth.

Define roles, responsibilities, and lines of authority to maintain efficient operations.

Conduct performance evaluations and foster a culture of professional development, accountability, and collaboration.

Create a supportive work environment that enhances staff morale and maximizes performance

Fund Development & Growth​

Develop and execute fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and revenue growth to ensure FUTURE’s sustainability. Educate and develop grant writing ability and opportunities within the community to enhance FUTURE’s ability to support our community.

Support Board and identify community efforts to secure sponsorships, grants, and partnerships that advance FUTURE’s mission. Seek community partners to help elevate the programs for FUTURE for current and future years.

Host, identify and promote FUTURE events and initiatives to generate community support and investment

Additional Duties

Participate in FUTURE activities that strengthen the organization’s image and community impact.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications
-
Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, education, youth development, or a related field.

Strong skills in organizational management, budgeting, and financial oversight.
-
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
-
Demonstrated ability to build community partnerships and engage diverse stakeholders.

Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
-
Experience supervising and developing staff and volunteers.
-
Current CA License.
-
Required LiveScan.
