Career Readiness Academy

The Career Readiness Academy (CRA)CRA is a 12-week, intensive hands-on training program focused on 21st century employability skills. The CRA is co-facilitated with help from area business and industry leaders. Topics include Resume writing, Career preparation, Organizational leadership, Cultural diversity, Trust, and teamwork. 

Activites Include

Solve for Tomorrow

Research a current community or world issue, present on its impact and share how you would solve it. “empathizing, defining the problem, developing ideas, creating solutions”.

College Tours

Allan Hancock College, UCSB, SBCC, and UCLA. The college tour is an extraordinary time for students to set foot on a campus and get a sense of the place, its people and its fit. The college visit is a powerful opportunity to see the physical space, learn about admissions and financial aid opportunities. It's also an effective way to see how students, faculty and staff engage with you and each other.

Trust Walk

Focusing on communication, trust, adaptability the Trust Walk is a powerful learning opportunity. This activity creates a concrete experience to use as a tool to discuss trust, how it works, how you lose it and many of the complexities that surround it. Trust is a major building block of any
group. Without it, it is challenging to accomplish anything of real value.

Privilege Walk

Raise awareness of various forms of privilege; understand the intersectionality of race, 

socioeconomic class, gender and other demographic variables that shape individuals; appreciate the diversity of individual backgrounds; and team-building.
